The ring gaskets and circular gaskets in the attachment are steel gaskets as specified in the ASME B16.20 standard; they are similar to octagonal gaskets and elliptical gaskets. However, this type of gasket seems to be never mentioned in domestic standards. Since the ASME B16.20 standard mentions these two types of gaskets being used on API flanges, it’s unclear whether Haiyou has used such gaskets or is aware of any situations in which they are employed.

In fact, ASME flanges are also used; API flanges can withstand higher pressures, typically in situations where oil and gas from drilling have just emerged at the wellhead, or when they reach buffers such as knock-out drums, etc., in high-pressure environments. When the flange is replaced or used for the first time, pressurizing pipes that are several kilometers or even dozens of kilometers long requires a long time and is costly. When using this type of gasket, there is a pressure testing hole on one side of the flange, which leads directly to the gasket area; by using this hole for pressure testing, it is possible to determine whether the gasket at that flange is sealed properly. In other words, the line where the gasket makes contact with the inner side of the flange is sealed, so the medium inside the pipe cannot escape.
It was educational. What is the scientific name of the corresponding flange? Called a “flange with pressure relief holes on the ring connection surface”? Is this type of flange available only in API standards, with no versions available domestically?
It’s just a regular RTJ flange; those that meet ASME or API standards will work. There’s no special name for it; it’s just this flange, and a part drawing is needed to proceed with its fabrication – that’s the complete drawing.
HG/T20615 American standard flanges
Not mentioned in domestic standards? Isn’t it HG/T 20612? Did I not read the topic of the post clearly?
API 6A is the standard for wellhead equipment and production trees; ASME B 16.5, B 16.20, and B16.47 provide the standards for flanges and gaskets respectively. Gaskets are classified into R, RX, and BX types, with RX and BX types having self-sealing capabilities. In short, you’ll need to search for the details yourself
