Regarding the issue of the gate plate falling off in water system gate valves

The inlet and outlet valves for the water supply pump in our station are gate valves (Z41T-10). Due to the hard water quality in the station, the connection between the gate plate and the valve stem of these valves suffers from severe corrosion almost every year, which leads to the detachment of the gate plate; therefore, new valves have to be replaced annually. What type of gate valve should be purchased in such a situation?
This post was last edited by hhk9801 on 2019-5-16 at 15:27. If the corrosion issue is caused solely by water quality, it is recommended to use stainless steel gate valves as a replacement. Moreover, it is recommended to use a welded connection at the junction of the gate and the screw rod.
Valves with a different design, such as butterfly valves made of corrosion-resistant materials, could be considered.
Generally, 2Cr13 is used for the valve stem, and the part that comes into contact with the gate is forged. Many manufacturers simply use rod material for processing and skip the forging step. It is also better to choose an anti-corrosion material for the gate, as its cost is much lower compared to using stainless steel for the entire valve
