I’d like to ask the experts. Recently, I encountered an issue while purchasing flanges. I intended to buy a batch of plate-type butt-welded flanges, specifying the requirements of standard GB9119-2010, PN10, and RF; various nominal sizes were available. However, after contacting several flange manufacturers, I found that many of them use standard GB9115-2010 \"Butt-Welded Steel Pipe Flanges\" for manufacturing such flanges. The flanges produced according to standard 9115 are much thinner than those made in accordance with standard 9119. Alternatively, some manufacturers use the now-obsoleted standard GB9119-2000, which also results in thinner flanges. It is very difficult to find manufacturers that actually produce flanges in compliance with standard GB9119-2010. I would like to ask: in a situation like this, are the 9119 plate-type butt-weld flanges manufactured using the thickness specifications for 9115 welded steel pipe flanges, or those fabricated according to older standards, suitable for use? Could they lead to leaks or even safety accidents?
It is still necessary to consider the medium properties, operating pressure, and operating temperature at the location where the flange will be used. Using flanges based solely on thickness is not suitable; it’s not appropriate
The thickness of flanges is definitely related to the pressure rating; under the same standard, those with a higher pressure rating have thicker walls than those with a lower pressure rating. However, flanges of different types can have different thicknesses at the same pressure rating. If we consider only the pressure rating, then which standard specifies a thickness that is both reasonable and safe?
Strictly speaking, the flanges provided by manufacturers can no longer be considered standard components, as there are no standards to follow. How, then, can it be determined whether such non-standard flanges are suitable, based on parameters such as the properties of the medium in the environment where they will be used, the operating pressure, and the operating temperature?
Why worry about this? Buy standard ones; there are large manufacturers that produce flanges, and they can manufacture flanges according to any standard you require. These thin flanges with small outer diameters are used by many manufacturers in order to save costs
Now, many flange manufacturers produce flanges that do not meet the standard specifications in order to secure orders; there is a significant difference between such flanges and standard flanges
It should be carried out in accordance with the 2010 version of the standards, as the old standards have been replaced.
It’s a buyer’s market now; just insist on your terms. No, go to another one. Even if there are no problems, the standards must be upheld.
