Some say to turn on the pump first and then the fan, while others say to turn on the fan first and then the pump? How exactly should it be started, and why?
What you might be referring to is an “air-cooled tower”. The correct way to start it is to first introduce gas and raise the pressure to normal levels, and then start the water pump. There is a crucial operation to note here: it is necessary to ensure that the pressure at the outlet of the water pump remains above the operating pressure. Once water flows properly into the air-cooled tower, the outlet valve can be gradually opened fully without a decrease in pressure. At the beginning of startup, the pressure of the water pump is at its highest value; at this time the pressure behind the valve is equal to the pressure in the air-cooled tower and is lower than the pressure of the water pump. It is necessary to slightly open the pump outlet first, and only after the system is filled with water can it be opened fully. Otherwise, if the outlet valve of the pump is opened wide, the pressure drops rapidly, and it is difficult for the water pump to return to normal operation in a short time; moreover, if the check valve leaks, it can cause air to flow back into the water system. To start the air-cooled tower, it must first be pressurized to its normal level before the water pump is started. This is because the drainage volume of the air-cooled tower is related to its gas pressure; the drainage from the tower occurs under normal pressure conditions, and the maximum opening degree of the valves is also designed based on the normal pressure levels. In an air-cooled tower, the water pump is started first; the pressure within the tower is at atmospheric level. Attempting to increase this pressure will result in fluctuations in the amount of water flowing into the tower and the amount of water being discharged from it. In some cases, rising gases may even blow the liquid flowing downward away, leading to what is known as \"liquid slugging\" – a phenomenon in which liquid gets carried into the air duct systems.
