I would like to ask the experts: can a pressure vessel that is not classified be modified into a pressure vessel that is classified? I have a tower unit whose original operating pressure was 0.05 MPa and design pressure was 0.25 MPa. Now the client requires it to be modified so that its operating pressure is 0.15 MPa. It wasn’t classified before; but with an operating pressure of 0.15 MPa, it now needs to be classified as Category 1. I think it’s impossible to modify, but the reasons I can think of to convince the owner are very limited. I hope the experts here can help me figure this out.
It depends on whether the Special Inspection Agency approves it. Previously, no classification meant there was no supervision and inspection; if a classification is assigned, then supervision and inspection records must be kept

Moreover, such modifications had to be carried out by qualified design and manufacturing units specialized in pressure vessels, and random alterations were not allowed.

It’s practically impossible to get the design firm (which must also have the appropriate design qualifications) and the supervision and inspection unit to agree to such a modification.
Such changes are impossible for products that are already in use. The entire manufacturing process was not subject to supervision or inspection – how could the Special Inspection Agency possibly approve it? !

No, pressure vessels that are not classified cannot be converted into classified pressure vessels unless they have first passed the inspection by the special inspection agency.

If it is in the design phase, professional quality and design institutes can be engaged to create the designs as required by the client, and these designs must then be submitted to a special inspection agency for approval before production can proceed.
