To keep the compressor in good operating condition at all times, prevent accidents from occurring, and eliminate potential hazards promptly, operators should regularly check the following items. 1 Pressure fluctuations: Under normal conditions, the pressures at various levels should remain within the specified range for the process and should be relatively stable. If there are significant fluctuations in pressure, it is necessary to contact the production team promptly to find out whether there have been any changes in the operating conditions. At the same time, the compressor itself should be inspected, including components such as the valves and piston rings in the cylinder area, as well as checking for any blockages or leaks in the pipes and valves of the auxiliary equipment. Every effort should be made to regulate the pressure and keep it within the specified range. If it cannot be adjusted, the vehicle must be stopped to fix the defect. 2 Condition of cooling water: The effectiveness of the cooling water can be observed from the gas temperatures at the inlet and outlet of each cylinder stage. If the temperature of the gas exiting the cylinder increases, it is necessary to check whether there are any faults in the cylinder components. If the components are in good condition, it may be that too much dirt has accumulated on the walls of the cylinder’s cooling jacket, thereby affecting the cooling effect. If the water flow rate is low and the water temperature is high, the cold water inlet valve should be opened wider to increase the amount of cold water and enhance cooling. If increasing the water volume still fails to lower the gas temperature, it is necessary to shut down the system and remove the dirt from the walls. 3 Temperature and lubrication of the friction areas: Intense friction in various components of the compressor can cause excessive temperature rises, leading to the shutdown of the compressor. Therefore, regularly monitoring the heating of the friction parts to prevent temperatures from rising too high is a necessary measure for the safe operation of the compressor. The heat generation in the frictional parts is determined mainly by the lubrication conditions, in addition to the material, machining accuracy, and installation. Regularly checking and addressing defects in the lubrication system, as well as improving the quality of lubrication, can eliminate overheating in the friction-prone parts. 4 Failures of moving parts 1. Assessment of air valves: When an air valve is operating properly, the sound produced during its intake and exhaust processes is even and rhythmic. If the valve fails, noise will be produced; for example, if there is a small soft metal gasket between the valve lift limiter and the valve disc, the valve will emit high-pitched sounds intermittently. When a compressor has multiple inlet and outlet valves, it is necessary to determine precisely which one is damaged. Under normal operating conditions, according to the operating procedures, the temperature of the inlet valve is lower (around 30°C), while the temperature of the outlet valve is higher (around 130°C); therefore, it is possible to identify which valve is damaged by feeling it with your hand. 2. Main bearing and bearing knocking: Knocking can occur in the main bearing and crankshaft due to excessive assembly clearance, increased wear over time as a result of prolonged operation, or loose fastening bolts. Additionally, when touching the main bearing by hand, it is possible to feel that the bearing cover is vibrating. An excessively small clearance in the main bearings or the presence of debris can cause the bearing temperatures to rise sharply; if this is not detected and addressed in time, it can lead to bearing burnout and shaft seizure. 3. Rising pressure on the upstream side and falling or unchanged pressure on the downstream side: During operation, compressors may experience an increase in pressure on the upstream side and a decrease in pressure on the downstream side. In addition to the reasons mentioned earlier related to damaged valves, this situation can sometimes be caused by wear and leakage of the piston rings or packing elements in the gas on the downstream side. 5 Motor operation: During the operation of the motor, it is necessary to regularly check its load, such as current and voltage. Each motor has a rated current value; exceeding this value increases the load on the motor and raises its temperature. When the current changes significantly while the compressor’s load remains unchanged, the temperature and pressure conditions in all areas should be checked promptly. In such a situation, the load should be reduced immediately, while the fault is identified and addressed promptly. The power supply voltage for compressors is generally stable. When the power supply unit fails or the voltage drops for other reasons, the speed of the induction motor decreases ; The speed of the synchronous motor remains constant, but the current increases, which may cause a trip and automatic shutdown. This requires the power supply provider to ensure stable voltage; in case of fluctuations, they should contact the user in advance.
