Project for the construction of a new 70,000-ton/year methanol and ammonia co-production facility at Baotou Steel Qinghua Coal Chemical Industry in Inner Mongolia Author/Source: Refinery & Petrochemical Trends Date: August 17, 2020 Page views: 9 (1) Name and overview of the construction project Inner Mongolia Baotou Steel Qinghua Coal Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. is located within the existing industrial park in Wulateqianqi, Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia. The site is situated 142 km west of Linhe District, where the municipal government of Bayannur City is located. The company currently has 4 TJL5550D-type coke ovens with 55 chambers each, producing 2.1 million tons of coke, 200,000 tons of methanol, and 90,000 tons of coal tar per year. The methanol synthesis off-gases generated during the methanol production process are sent to the fuel gas network for use as fuel; however, this represents a waste of this hydrogen-rich, clean gas. In light of this, the company has submitted an application to the Ulaat Qianqi Bureau of Industry and Information Technology to build a new facility capable of producing 70,000 tons of ammonia per year through methanol production. The project code is 2020-150823-25-03-005708. This facility will utilize PSA technology to extract hydrogen from the existing methanol off-gases, and through processes such as methanation, syngas compression, and ammonia synthesis, it will achieve an annual ammonia production capacity of 70,000 tons.
