According to monitoring by the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce, the average price of fertilizer sales in Hunan this week was 2,555.14 yuan per ton, an increase of 0.2% compared to the previous week, but a decrease of 4.4% on a year-on-year basis. By variety, the average selling price of nitrogen fertilizer was 2,104.92 yuan per ton, up by 0.1% but down by 14.4% on a year-on-year basis ； The average selling price of ternary compound fertilizers was 3,005.37 yuan per ton, up by 0.2% and 4.2% on a year-on-year basis. The average selling price of fertilizers in Hunan Province has seen a slight increase for three consecutive weeks, with an overall increase of 0.9%. The main reason for the rise in fertilizer prices is the continuous increase in costs, which drives up their prices steadily. Secondly, downstream demand has seen a slight improvement; agricultural procurement demand has increased, while industrial demand remains driven by essential inventory replenishment, and market sentiment is fairly positive. Affected by the tight supply situation that has driven up international sulfur prices significantly, as of December 14, 2025, the price of sulfur in China’s domestic market was 320% higher than the average price of 960 yuan per ton in the same period last year. It reached levels as high as 4,200 yuan per ton in 2022, showing a strong upward trend, and this trend is likely to continue until the end of the year. Given that China’s dependence on imported sulfur is relatively high, at around 50%, fertilizer manufacturers that rely on such imported sulfur will face pressure to bear the resulting costs. They may be forced to reduce their production levels or even shut down, which could lead to a decrease in the supply of fertilizers ； On the other hand, the support provided by cost factors for fertilizer prices is unlikely to decline significantly in the short term; it is expected that the average selling price in the province’s fertilizer market will remain strong and volatile in the coming week.
