Dear experts, our company currently has a valve equipped with a Rotork actuator; its original function was merely to open and close the valve. However, the current process requirements call for an additional regulating function. What modifications are needed in this case, and what components do need to be added or replaced?
It should be possible; check if the wiring terminals of your electric actuator have an option for 4-20MA analog input
Previously, orders were for switches and valves that did not have analog control; now there is a need to make changes, and it’s necessary to figure out how to do that and what needs to be added or modified
It’s not just a matter of sending a signal to indicate that valve adjustment is possible; it also depends on whether the valves on site are suitable for adjustment. You chose a switch-type cut-off valve earlier; even if a adjustable function is added now, it will still be detrimental to the valve itself! What valves are there on site? Gate valve? Ball valve? Butterfly valve?
We don’t need to worry about problems with the valve itself; we’ve already considered that. It’s only the actuator that’s an issue now
Then just use an actuator with adjustment – you can choose electric or pneumatic! Or, certain functional blocks for the electric actuator can be added on top of the existing setup, which requires technical support from the original manufacturer!
To replace the circuit control board in order to achieve analog control.
It used to be just on/off valves; the circuit board didn’t have any analog input. Is there an on-site control box? Change local control to remote, jog: lol
The 8th floor option is the simplest; if DCS control is used, the output signal can be adjusted, and the motor power should not be too high. If it’s something else, we still need to check whether the motor is suitable.
Does it suffice to replace the analog control circuit board? Can the other parts of the electric actuator be used interchangeably?
In principle, it is possible, provided that the speed of the motor beforehand is generally below 48 r/min, so as to ensure accurate control.
