What are the specifications for intrinsically safe cables, and how to choose them?

If the insulation is black, it’s called a regular cable; if the insulation is blue, it’s called an intrinsically safe cable. Cable manufacturers don’t provide intrinsically safe cables, so what can be done? Replace the wire with one of copper, right~~~ So, if you have a cable with black insulation, just cover a section of it with blue heat-shrink tubing, or wrap it several times with blue tape – and it will then function as an intrinsically safe cable!
