Questions about balance containers

Newbie’s question: Whether it’s a two-chamber or single-chamber container, why is it called a ‘balanced’ container? ‘What has been ‘balanced’?

I am not convinced by the answers given. As I understand it, the structure of that tank relies on a balance between condensation and overflow to create a stable reference liquid column. I’m not sure if it’s correct
You explained it quite well. As for how this noun came about, I really haven’t found any authoritative explanation.
