For flow meter installation, is it generally in front of the control valve or behind it?
To avoid the impact of the control valve’s operation on the flow meter, it is generally recommended to install it in front of the control valve. Whether it is installed before or after the control valve, it is essential to ensure sufficient straight pipe sections before and after the flow meter.
In front of the valve; I’ve never seen it behind the valve.
The process design considers that maintenance is easy behind the valve, and both straight pipe sections and fully filled pipes can ensure this

Since flow meters are usually located close to valves, when the valve is in a low opening position, it may not be possible to fill the flow meter completely; hence, there is always some degree of opening when operation starts； Valves with high pressure differences may also have an impact on flow measurement.
And there should be standards for this; that’s what we have always required.
The general installation sequence is pressure, flow rate, temperature, and control valve; for flow meters that do not require a straight pipe section, it makes no difference whether the valve is placed before or after the meter.
