I’m facing a problem right now – the customer reports that the vortex flow meter can no longer detect gas flow. I conducted a video inspection with the client remotely, and the flow meter appears to be fine. Based on its flow diagram, there is a small inflow and a large outflow – could this be the reason why no readings can be obtained?
A piping configuration with small inflows and large outflows may result in a reduced flow rate that is not sufficient to reach the measurement threshold of the vortex flow meter, which could thus be the reason for no readings being obtained. It is recommended to check and adjust the pipeline configuration or the installation location of the flow meter. .
Yes, in the picture I posted above, the opening degree of the valve at the front is larger than that of the valve at the back, and as a result the flow meter can detect the flow rate. Once the valve at the front has a smaller opening degree than that at the back, there is no flow rate anymore.
This shows that the measurement of the flow meter is indeed affected by changes in the flow velocity within the pipeline. The adjustment of the valve opening directly affects the flow velocity and flow rate. When the opening of the valve ahead is larger than that of the valve behind, the flow velocity in the pipeline may reach the measurement threshold of the vortex flow meter, thereby allowing the flow rate to be detected. When the opening degree of the valve at the front is smaller than that of the one at the back, it may result in a flow rate that is too low, below the minimum measurement threshold of the flow meter; as a result, the flow rate cannot be measured. To solve this problem, consider readjusting the valve opening to ensure that the flow rate remains within the meter’s effective measurement range, or move the flow meter to a location more suitable for measurement. .
