Construction begins on new environmental protection facilities for the Ili coal-to-gas project Author/Source: Date: 2017-04-13 Clicks: 24 Recently, the hazardous waste landfill and emergency buffer tank for the coal-to-natural gas project operated by Ili Xintian Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. started construction. Once completed, the hazardous waste landfill will be able to handle 182,300 tons of hazardous waste, while the emergency buffer tank will have a capacity of 59,000 cubic meters for wastewater. With these facilities in operation, it will be possible to prevent the discharge of wastewater and waste residues, thereby **reducing the risk of environmental impact in the Ili River Valley. The commencement of work on these two projects marks the official start of construction of the new environmental protection facilities for the Xintian project. The XinTian Coal Chemical Industry’s project for producing 2 billion cubic meters of coal-to-natural gas per year received approval for its environmental impact assessment in the autonomous region in December 2009. After resubmitting it for environmental impact assessment by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, approval was granted by the ministry in December 2016. Due to the rising environmental protection standards, the environmental impact assessments approved by the Ministry of Environmental Protection now include additional environmental protection facilities. Once these new facilities are in place, they can significantly reduce pollutant emissions and thereby lower environmental risks. It is reported that the addition of concentrated brine crystallization, ammonia flares, and purification RTOs to the Xintian coal chemical project is the first of its kind in the coal chemical industry; currently, technical research, feasibility studies, and comparisons are being carried out ; Bidding processes are underway for ultra-low emission devices for boilers, rigid wastewater storage tanks, and hazardous waste landfills ; Online wastewater monitoring equipment and online exhaust gas monitoring data transmitters have been purchased. All of the above work is expected to be completed by December 2017. In accordance with the requirements of the \"Access Criteria for Modern Coal Chemical Industry,\" Xintian Coal Chemical Industry carried out upgrades to achieve ultra-low emissions in advance, improved its three-level prevention and control system, and began construction on various projects one by one in a comprehensive manner. A regenerative oxidation unit, an oil and gas recovery system, a sludge drying unit, and a crystalline salt treatment system have been added to properly treat the generated waste gases, wastewater, and waste residues, thereby meeting or even exceeding **’s emission standards. At the end of March, the 2 billion cubic meter coal-to-natural gas project in Xintian began trial operations; on the 29th, qualified natural gas was produced and officially fed into the Yihuo coal-to-gas branch pipeline of the West-East Gas Transmission Line 3. Yili Xintian Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. is a joint venture established with funding provided by Zhejiang Energy Group and Shandong Xinwen Mining Group, located in Bayandai Town, Yining City, Xinjiang. The natural gas produced by the project enters the West-East Gas Transmission Line 2 and Line 3 pipelines via the Yihuo coal-to-gas pipeline, and is then transported to downstream areas.
