“A patented technology for a swirl dry gas gasifier won the gold award

Patent technologies from Ningxia win China’s top patent award once again 09:12:00, 2017 – Source: Science and Technology Department of Ningxia Autonomous Region. Recently, the Intellectual Property Office announced the results of the 19th China Patent Awards; a total of 5 patents from our region were awarded prizes. Among them, the patent for “a cyclone dry gasification furnace” developed by Shenhua Ningxia Coal Group won the gold award, marking the first time in 10 years that our region has received China’s highest award in the field of intellectual property. Four other technologies received excellence awards. 　　The China Patent Award is the only **governmental award in China that recognizes inventions and creations for which patent rights have been obtained. It is recognized by the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization and enjoys a high reputation internationally. There are 20 projects that have won the China Patent Gold Award, 5 projects shortlisted for the Design Gold Award, 804 projects shortlisted for the Patent Excellence Award, and 68 projects shortlisted for the China Design Excellence Award. The prize will consist of a gold medal and certificate jointly awarded by the Intellectual Property Office and the World Intellectual Property Organization. 　　The patented technology in our region that has won awards is a gasification technique that, as reported internationally, achieves the highest yield of syngas through a quenching process. It effectively solves key and common challenges in the field of coal gasification, enabling large-scale domestic coal chemical projects to reduce their reliance on foreign technologies. It facilitates the localization of key equipment and valves for large-scale coal gasification, enhances the level of independent research, development, and industrial application of coal gasification technologies, equipment, and materials in China, and promotes the development of technologies for the clean and efficient use of coal. The Shenhua Ningmei 4 million tons per year coal indirect liquefaction project is equipped with 28 sets of gasifiers, all of which utilize the technology covered by this patent. On December 28, 2016, successful operation was achieved with the first batch of feedstock processed, and patent licensing agreements were signed with foreign companies such as Peak Energy in Texas, USA, to use the products based on this patent. From the date of implementation to the end of 2016, an additional profit of 131.66 million yuan was generated, along with additional revenue from intellectual property licensing amountsing to 43.72 million yuan. This invention not only completely addresses the design flaws in the operation of existing GSP gasification units, forcing Siemens to withdraw from the coal gasification market, but it also holds great significance for enhancing China’s ability to ensure energy independence, promoting the clean and efficient use of coal, and facilitating the development of ethnic minority regions.
