I seek advice from experts in the industry regarding the problems in the granulation unit of Shenhua Baotou’s polypropylene plant. Question 1: Before granulating polypropylene powder, it needs to be evenly mixed with particles of composite additives before granulation. How can the composite additives be mixed with the PP powder in a fixed ratio? What is the name of the equipment used for conveying the additives and how does it work? Question 2: After the polypropylene powder and additives are mixed and conveyed in the mixer, are there any additional protective measures in place to prevent foreign objects from entering the granulator? Is it a filter screen or some other device? Question 3: The required particle size for the composite additives is 3–5 mm. What is the basis for this requirement? Does a particle size of 5–7 mm for the additives have a significant impact on the feeding process?

When the compound is mixed with polyolefins for granulation, it is necessary to mix them in the correct proportions. A loss-in-weight scale is used to feed in the compound, and this scale is linked to a metering screw pump via interlock control, allowing the speed to be adjusted in real time so that the amount of material fed stays within the required range. Metering screw machines have a design similar to that of single-screw or twin-screw machines. The particle size of the compound additives should not be too large, as larger particles can cause difficulties in feeding them into the metering screw machine, leading to equipment overload and shutdown; therefore, the particle size used for feeding must be small.
