The 1.8 million-ton coal-to-oil project based on clean coal energy in Shanxi’s Lu’an region is now operating at full capacity across the entire production process. Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemical Industry. Date: October 4, 2018. Clicks: 70. On September 26, all four gasification units of Lu’an Group’s 1.8 million tons per year demonstration project for the clean utilization of high-sulfur coal for oil, chemicals, electricity, and heat production (referred to as the “180 Project”) began operating at full capacity, enabling both production lines to function at full capacity as well. The project produces 3,000 tons of qualified products per day. Hu Xianxian, general manager of Shanxi Lu’an Coal-based Clean Energy Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Coal-based Clean Energy Company”), said that since the end of June this year, when Project 180 shifted from the infrastructure testing phase to full-scale trial production, the company has addressed a series of bottlenecks that affected the stable operation of the large-scale system, including issues related to the gasifier cycle gas compressor and the synthesis cycle heat exchange and separation unit. By achieving stability in the large-scale equipment, systems, and balance processes, it was possible to enable full operation of both production lines, with the entire system running at full capacity. This has laid a solid foundation for the future high-quality development of Lu’an Group’s new type of advanced modern coal chemical industry. In the next step, long-term measures such as technological innovation, process optimization, and skill improvement will be employed to ensure the stable and efficient operation of Project 180, so as to turn Lu’an Group’s new high-end modern coal chemical industry into a model for transformation and comprehensive reform in Shanxi, a leader in the energy revolution, and a new benchmark for open development. The Lu’an 1.8 million tons per year integrated demonstration project for the clean utilization of high-sulfur coal for oil, chemical, and thermal applications is a major landmark project for the comprehensive reform and transformation in Shanxi Province. Using Luan’s own high-sulfur coal as raw material, the project integrates advanced international technologies to achieve clean and efficient utilization of coal, thereby producing 49 types of high-end fine chemicals across five categories, including premium waxes, aromatic-free solvents, special fuels, high-quality lubricants, and specialty chemicals, in addition to generating over 115 MW of power from waste heat. The project serves as a demonstration for large-scale gasification technologies of **\"high-carbon, high-sulfur, and high-ash\" coal, a demonstration for the production of high-value chemicals through coal-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, a demonstration for the upgrading of traditional coal chemical industries such as those producing methanol, and a demonstration of high environmental standards in modern coal chemical manufacturing. The Lu’an 180 project commenced construction in February 2013 ; The project was completed in October 2015 ; On March 4, 2016, approval was obtained from the **Ministry of Environmental Protection** ; In November 2016, it received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission; on December 4, 2017, the FTO synthesis unit began producing products, and on December 29, the refining unit started yielding qualified products. Thus, the entire production process was completed successfully, entering a phase of stable operation and improved efficiency.
