The news says that technologies for producing hydrogen from fossil fuels, such as hydrogen produced from coal and natural gas, are already quite mature. Ask the experts: are there any operating facilities for coal-to-hydrogen production in China? Are there any projects under construction at the moment?

The key to producing hydrogen from coal lies not in pulp or powder preparation; selecting the appropriate coal gasification technology based on the type of coal is already a well-established practice in China. In the field of refining and chemical processing, coal-based hydrogen production involves grinding the large amounts of difficult-to-process petroleum coke generated by oil refining plants into coke powder or coke slurry, and mixing it with different types of coal to use as raw material in gasification units for the production of hydrogen, CO, and syngas. The preparation and blending of petroleum coke are the key core technologies in coal-based hydrogen production.
There are many coal-to-hydrogen plants in China these days; my company uses a small unit with a capacity of 150 tons of coal per day.
