At 11 a.m. on March 31, Xinjiang Tianyu Coal Chemicals Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Tianyu Coal Chemicals”) held a ceremony to mark the successful launch of its coal-based hydrogenated oil at the storage and transportation tank area of its logistics center. As the first project of Zhongtai Group to enter the petrochemical sector, the coal-based hydrogenated oil produced by Tianyu Coal Chemical was successfully launched, marking Tianyu Coal Chemical’s transition from coal chemical production to petrochemical production. This development set a precedent for Zhongtai Group in converting coal into oil and filled a gap in the group’s petrochemical capabilities. At the launch ceremony for the oil product, at 11 o’clock sharp, two tank trucks loaded with coal-based hydrogenated oil slowly left the storage and transportation tank area of the logistics center. Cui Jinmin, Party Secretary and Chairman of Tianyu Coal Chemical, Ma Kui, project manager, Ding Mingshan, Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager, along with other company leaders, heads of various departments and workshops (centers), and employee representatives, were all present to witness this historic moment of the first shipment of oil products. Cui Jinmin said that developing coal-to-oil technology is a strategic measure to ensure **energy security, as well as an important way to achieve the clean and efficient use of coal. The successful launch of Tianyu Coal Chemical’s coal-based hydrogenated oil marks a significant milestone for Zhongtai Group in the development of the coal-to-oil industry. Project Overview: On June 16, 2020, Boilers No. 1 to 3 of the carbonization unit in the Phase I of the project, which has a total investment of 2.561 billion yuan and is designed for the clean and efficient comprehensive utilization of 5 million tons of coal per year (referred to as the “Tianyu Coal Chemical Project”), were successfully commissioned after being fed with material at once. This marked the official commencement of operations for the Tianyu Coal Chemical Project, following two years of construction. The carbonization unit is the first device among the overall engineering equipment of the Tianyu Coal Chemical Project to be put into operation; it is responsible for supplying raw materials such as raw coal gas and coal tar to the hydrogen production system and the hydrogenation system. The project mainly includes a carbonization unit with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons, a combined facility for the lightening of coal tar with an annual output of 300,000 tons, a hydrogen production plant that uses 26,000 cubic meters of raw gas, as well as various auxiliary facilities. This setup creates a circular economy industry that integrates the processing of raw coal, upgraded coal, coal tar, coke oven gas, hydrogen produced from gas, and hydrogenated coal tar, resulting in products such as lignite coke, hydrogenated oil based on coal type 1, hydrogenated oil based on coal type 2, and heavy oil. The successful commissioning and operation of this project will enable the clean and efficient conversion of coal, optimize the energy supply structure, and ensure energy supply security. It will play a significant role in promoting the transformation of Toksun County’s strategic resources and the high-quality development of its local economy, as well as in achieving the overall goals of social stability and long-term peace in Xinjiang.
