On September 7, 2021, the first feeding trial run of the multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasifier in the second-phase coal-to-natural gas project of Inner Mongolia HuiNeng Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. was successful. It is the only project that uses coal slurry gasification technology to produce coal-to-natural gas. The total weight of this model of gasification furnace is 426 tons, its height is 27 meters, its diameter is 4000 mm, and the pressure is 6.5 MPa. The gasifier, designed as a single unit, is capable of producing 245,000 Nm3 of useful gas per hour. It is the first gasifier in China to use a nickel-based alloy coating on its inner walls, and it also has the highest gas production capacity per unit among gasifiers in the world. There are a total of 3 gasification furnaces (2 in operation and 1 as backup), accompanied by 3 sets for coal slurry preparation, 3 sets for gasification, 3 sets for gas washing, 3 sets for slag water treatment, 1 ash water tank, 2 clarification tanks, and 2 sets for vacuum filtration. The coal-to-natural gas project of Inner Mongolia HuiNeng Coal and Electricity Group Company is located in the Shengyuan Coal Chemical Industry Base in Yijinhuoluo Banner, Ordos City. This project uses coal as raw material to produce synthetic natural gas and liquefied natural gas, and it is the first demonstration project of coal-to-natural gas in China to be invested and built by a private enterprise. The construction of this project is carried out in two phases: Phase 1 required an investment of around 7 billion yuan; it began operations in October 2014, with all 400 million cubic meters of natural gas being liquefied ; Single-nozzle gasification unit scale: Effective gas (CO+H2) output per furnace: 100,000 Nm3/h; effective gas (CO+H2) output of the unit: 200,000 Nm3/h. Two gasification furnaces in operation with one as a backup ; The natural gas liquefaction project (LNG) for the second phase is a load-driven natural gas liquefaction plant. The planned investment for this project is 12 billion yuan, and the construction will include natural gas purification, liquefaction, storage of liquefied natural gas, transportation, as well as related supporting facilities. The capacity of the multi-nozzle vaporization unit in the second phase is 1.2 billion m3 per year; the effective gas output (CO+H2) per furnace is 247,500 Nm3/h, while the overall effective gas output (CO+H2) for the entire unit is 495,000 Nm3/h. There are 2 vaporization furnaces in operation, with 1 as a backup. The continuation project was fully launched in 2018, building on the experience gained from the first phase of construction and operation, as well as through further optimization of processes and innovation in technology. It is scheduled to be completed and put into operation by July 2021. By then, the total production capacity for coal-to-natural gas is expected to reach 1.6 billion m3 per year, with LNG production amounting to 1.1 million tons per year. It can convert 5.5 to 6 million tons of coal per year, providing over 2,000 job opportunities for society.
