From January 2 to January 21, a detailed HAZOP review and analysis were carried out. The Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) as well as the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessment for the comprehensive utilization project of coke oven gas were conducted at Donghua Technology. The meeting was chaired by Xu Jirong and Cao Jian, members of the HAZOP committee at Donghua Technology, with the participation of representatives from the project owner side as well as process and instrumentation personnel from the process package provider. At the meeting, a detailed HAZOP review and analysis were conducted on the gasification unit, shift conversion section, low-temperature methanol washing section, compression section, distillation section, synthesis section, sulfur recovery section, and tank farm. The successful holding of the HAZOP review meeting effectively improved the design quality and safety standards of various units in the project. It provided valuable guidance for identifying potential hazards throughout the project as well as for ensuring safe operation after the project is put into use, thus laying a solid foundation for the smooth progress of this project. January 14–15: Meeting on the sulfur recovery process package. The meeting regarding the sulfur recovery process package for the comprehensive utilization project of coke oven gas was successfully held at Donghua Technology. Li Feng, deputy general manager of Linhuan Coking Co., Ltd., Zhang Yang, process director, Huang Kun, the Danish project manager from Topsoe Company, and Zhang Dapeng, sales manager, as well as Cui Linlin, project director at Donghua Technology, Nie Lei, project manager, Cao Wei, design manager, and other relevant personnel from the project team attended the meeting. The three parties involved held discussions and reached agreements on matters related to the project design basis, coordination procedures, contract terms, overall schedule, and supply plans. The successful holding of the startup meeting for the sulfur recovery process package marks the completion of all aspects of this project, from the gasification process package, the low-temperature methanol washing process package, to the synthesis process package. It lays a solid foundation for the subsequent design, procurement, and construction of the project. In the early hours of January 16, the pile foundation work for the critical path was completed. With the concrete pour for the last pile of the gasification unit finished, the pile foundation work for the critical path was brought to an end under the presence of snowflakes and cold winds. On November 18 last year, the first pile drilling was carried out, marking the beginning of the entire pile construction process. To ensure the successful completion of this critical project ahead of the Spring Festival, all members of the project team developed a detailed work plan, construction scheme, and emergency response plan. To ensure the safety and quality of 24/7 construction on site, the project team members worked in shifts without taking any rest for 24 hours. Even with a narrow working area, two pile-driving machines were used to carry out construction in an orderly manner, thereby saving valuable time for the project team. Thanks to the relentless efforts of all team members, all pile foundations for the gasification unit were completed on schedule, despite continuous rainfall that had severely hindered pile driving work for nearly a week. The completion of the critical path pile foundation work has laid a solid foundation for the full-scale construction to commence after the Spring Festival. On January 19, the team responsible for Donghua Technology’s project related to the comprehensive utilization of coke oven gas visited the client to review the work done before the Spring Festival. Under the leadership of Ye Ping, a member of the company’s Party committee and deputy general manager, the entire team went to Linhuan in Huaibei to conduct an annual review of the project with the client. Liu Kai, chairman of Linhuan Coking Co., Ltd., attended the meeting. At the meeting, project manager Nie Lei provided a detailed report on the project’s milestones, design progress, procurement progress, and construction progress. He expressed his gratitude for the strong support from the client, as well as for the joint efforts of both parties, which enabled all aspects of the project to progress smoothly and be completed successfully in 2019. After listening to the report, Liu Kai expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far on the project and was confident that it could be turned into a model project.
