If MTO spent catalysts cannot be recycled, do they belong to hazardous waste or ordinary industrial solid waste?
MTO catalysts are primarily SAPO-34 (silica-alumina phosphate molecular sieves), which are composed of four elements: Si, Al, P, and O. According to the list of hazardous waste, catalysts contaminated with toxic substances are classified as hazardous waste. Even though the elements of aluminum silicophosphate molecular sieves do not possess harmful properties, the methanol solution used in the process of producing olefins from methanol is toxic. Unless you can send the catalyst contaminated with toxic substances to a qualified facility for treatment, or clean it yourself (just like trying to whiten coal blocks – complete nonsense!) ), the catalyst is treated as ordinary solid waste. Moreover, the cleaning waste liquid remains hazardous waste.
