At 11:28 on January 12th, the methanol synthesis tower, one of the key units in the project to produce 300,000 tons per year of methanol from coke oven gas along with ammonia, which is overseen by Donghua Technology, was successfully installed. This marks the first major milestone achieved in this project since 2021. The methanol synthesis tower for this project is about 15 meters tall, 4 meters in diameter, and weighs 243 tons – making it the heaviest tower in the entire plant. Therefore, a 400-ton crawler crane was used as the main lifting crane, while an 180-ton crawler crane was used as the auxiliary crane. After several attempts, the tower was successfully lifted into place by suspension in the air. The function of the methanol synthesis tower is to use compressed syngas as raw material; through synthesis in the tower and separation in a condenser, crude methanol is obtained, which is then sent to the distillation unit for further purification. Meanwhile, the heat generated by the reaction is used to produce steam as a by-product. The fine chemicals and new materials recycling project of Shanxi Axin New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., which involves the production of 300,000 tons per year of methanol and synthetic ammonia from coke oven gas, is located in the Fine Chemicals Park in Qingxu County, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. The facility is designed to produce 300,000 tons per year of methanol and 68,000 tons per year of synthetic ammonia; in the future, additional new material projects such as DMMn will be developed using the methanol produced, thereby extending the utilization of coke oven gas along the downstream industrial chain. Donghua Technology has won a contract worth 806 million yuan to undertake the fine chemicals and new materials recycling project at Shanxi Xiaxin New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.; this project involves the production of 300,000 tons per year of methanol as well as ammonia, with a contract duration of 16 months.
