Commencement of Construction on Coking Projects in Handan – Author/Source: Refining and Chemical Industry Updates – Date: 2021-03-08 – Clicks: 55. On the morning of March 3, the ceremony marking the start of construction on projects in Handan for the first quarter of 2021 was held at the site of the Jinding Steel’s high-strength H-beam production line project in Wu’an City. Li Yongke, deputy director of the Handan People’s Congress, along with responsible officials from relevant departments in Handan, and local leaders such as Zhao Hongshan, Dong Zhiyi, Lu Ming, Xing Naiyu, Han Baokui, Zhang Guoqun, Ma Xiaobin, He Liang, and Qi Youshan attended the opening ceremony. Mayor Dong Zhiyi presided over the groundbreaking ceremony. The Coking-Coal Power Generation Project of Hebei Taihang Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. is located to the southwest of the first-phase project for the relocation of Taihang Iron and Steel out of the city, within the Nanming River Industrial Park in the Wu’an Industrial Park. The total investment in this project is 2 billion yuan. It involves the construction of 8 sets of QQZR2015-Ⅲ type heat-recovery coke ovens, with each oven having 40 chambers and an effective coal packing volume of 41.25 cubic meters; 3 sets of 125 t/h dry quenching coke units (2 in use and 1 as a backup); 4 sets of 65-megawatt waste heat recovery steam turbine generators (accompanied by 8 75 t/h waste gas heat recovery boilers and 3 65 t/h dry quenching coke heat recovery boilers); 4 sets of desulfurization and denitrification systems (2 in use and 2 as backups); 2 10-kilovolt substations. In addition, there are supporting facilities such as raw coal storage areas, coal preparation systems, coal loading and coke pushing systems, as well as facilities for coke production, dry quenching, coke screening, power generation, dust removal, and desulfurization. Once completed, this project will have the capacity to produce 1 million tons of coke per year, as well as generate 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The annual sales revenue is expected to reach 2.55 billion yuan, with total profits and taxes amounting to 139 million yuan; 430 new jobs will be created as well. This project adopts an innovative design that makes efficient use of clean and environmentally friendly energy in coke ovens, along with associated waste heat power generation systems. It boasts technical advantages such as the ability to operate without chemical processing, elimination of wastewater, environmental protection at the source, energy-efficient heat exchange, high-efficiency power generation, regional heating, and no discharge of solid waste. It eliminates the safety, environmental, and fire-related risks associated with traditional coke ovens; energy is recycled to the greatest extent possible, resulting in an increase in the supply of purely green electricity. This approach **reduces the production and operational costs for enterprises, improves the regional environmental quality, and represents a technological innovation that facilitates the transformation and development of the coke industry.** Hebei Huafeng Energy Technology Development Co., Ltd.’s project for reducing coke usage through replacement and improvement: This project involves the use of coke oven gas to produce hydrogen along with LNG; the total investment is 1.46 billion yuan. It includes the construction of 2×48-chamber JNDX3-6.25 type single-heating type rammed coke ovens with a production capacity of 1 million tons, as well as supporting facilities such as a 125 t/h dry quenching system, a new wet quenching system as a backup, and an installation for producing hydrogen from coke oven gas at a rate of 30,000 Nm3/h, with simultaneous LNG production. It is estimated that upon completion, the project will generate sales revenue of 2.6 billion yuan, profits and taxes of 170 million yuan, and create 360 new job opportunities. This project actively responds to the action plan aimed at winning the battle to protect the blue sky, focusing on significantly improving air quality in order to foster a positive synergy between industrial development and environmental protection. The dry quenching technology used in this project is an environmentally friendly and energy-saving production process; it falls within the list of projects designated as **recommended clean production technologies, and is in line with** industry policies. Since the dry quenching coke production plant recovers the sensible heat of the red-hot coke, the steam generated is used for production and power generation, replacing steam boilers of corresponding capacity; this reduces environmental pollution caused by boiler coal ash, combustion exhaust gases, dust, and other substances. Therefore, this project can reduce smoke and dust emissions by 95%, thereby significantly alleviating environmental pollution. It promotes the use of scientific and technological solutions such as clean production and energy conservation. Moreover, it makes use of the excess coke oven gas from existing coking plants for purification and recovery, producing products such as LNG and hydrogen. This is a project that involves the comprehensive utilization of resources and energy savings. The hydrogen produced is part of the development plans for the new energy sector, which helps to improve the overall exploitation and recycling of resources and energy. It contributes to the development of a circular economy, facilitates the protection and improvement of the ecological environment, and ensures the sustainable economic development of Wu’an City. Hebei Xinxing New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.’s 1.94 million-ton coking project: This project, with a total investment of 2.57 billion yuan, is located within the Wu’an Industrial Park, specifically in the Wu’an plant area of Xinxing Cast Pipe Co., Ltd. The project covers an area of 291 mu, with a total construction area of 89,000 square meters. It involves the construction of two 6.73-meter-reheat type ramming coke ovens along with various supporting facilities, including two 69-chamber 6.73-meter-reheat type ramming coke ovens, as well as systems for coal preparation, coke transportation, gas purification, gas power generation, flue gas desulfurization and denitrification, wastewater treatment, circulating water systems, cooling water systems, demineralized water systems, dust removal facilities, power distribution systems, and other production auxiliary facilities. In addition, there will be administrative facilities such as a coking control center, wastewater treatment control center, power generation control center, and office buildings. Once completed, the project will have an annual production capacity of 1.94 million tons of coke. It is expected to generate annual sales revenue of 4.22 billion yuan, total profits and taxes of 650 million yuan, and create 570 new jobs. Based on the experience gained from domestic and international production practices, and taking into account the company’s actual conditions, this project adopts advanced, suitable, and reliable ramming coke oven technology. As a result, the overall process, equipment, environmental protection measures, energy efficiency, as well as the technical aspects and control systems involved in this project reach international and domestic advanced standards, yielding good economic and social benefits.
