The design briefing for the research and demonstration project on methanol gasification and water-coal slurry concentration at Yueneng Chemical has been completed. Recently, due to the impact of the pandemic, Yueneng Chemical organized a remote video conference for the design briefing of this project, in order to clarify the project’s design objectives and construction requirements, thus laying a solid foundation for advancing the project efficiently and in an orderly manner. At the meeting, the designers from the Northwest Institute, who are the general contractors for the project, first introduced the project’s design intentions, structural design features, process arrangements and requirements, as well as matters needing attention during construction. Yueneng Chemical Company, the construction unit, and the supervision team raised questions regarding the issues identified in the design documents; the designers provided detailed answers to these questions. All parties involved conducted thorough discussions and analyses on the identified issues, reaching a consensus on how to address them. It is understood that this project is a scientific and technological initiative assigned by the group company. Its aim is to increase the concentration of coal slurry by more than 3 percentage points by utilizing the high-concentration slurry preparation technology developed by the Northwest Chemical Engineering Research Institute. This will significantly improve the efficiency of coal gasification. Additionally, the use of treated biochemical sludge helps to reduce the costs associated with sludge treatment, thereby minimizing secondary pollution generated during the processing process. Since the signing of the EPC contract on October 20, 2021, the project has completed the detailed engineering design and procurement, as well as the construction of pile foundations and the pouring of the foundation slab; currently, work is underway on setting up the formwork for the equipment foundations. The total investment in this project is 33.1069 million yuan, and it is located in the Energy and Chemical Comprehensive Utilization Industrial Park in Yangqiaopan Town, Jingbian County, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. In the first phase of the project, an additional coal slurry concentration unit was added to the methanol gasification plant area. Utilizing the existing coal slurry preparation system and employing a \"fine grinding + ultra-fine grinding\" process, approximately 15.6% of the coal slurry exiting the three rod mills was taken for fine grinding before being returned to the mills. Through adjustments to the particle size distribution and the use of additives, the concentration of the coal slurry was increased from 61% to 64%. During this coal slurry concentration process, 15 tons per hour of the biochemical sludge generated by the company was also processed simultaneously. Once prepared, the coal slurry is fed into the gasification furnace for gasification; the project is designed to produce 1.57 million tons of coal slurry per year after concentration. After the completion of the coal slurry concentration enhancement demonstration unit, the concentration of the coal slurry increased by 3 percentage points compared to the existing level; the oxygen consumption and coal consumption during the gasification process were reduced by approximately 5% and 3% respectively, resulting in significant economic benefits.
