Jiujiang Petrochemical Sets Another Record for Continuous Operation of a Single-Burner Gasification Furnace Author/Source: Sinochem News Network Date: 2022-03-02 Clicks: 5 On March 1, good news came from the Jiujiang Branch of Sinopec Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Jiujiang Petrochemical). The company made efforts to optimize the performance of its gasification units and to tackle related technical challenges; by February 24, it had managed to extend the maximum continuous operation time of Gasification Unit A from 140 days to 151 days. This marked another update to the best record for continuous operation of a single-burner gasification furnace among Sinopec’s similar units, following the record set in 2017. This record implies a significant reduction in the number of furnace turnovers throughout the year, an improvement in the overall operational efficiency of the facility, and a decrease in safety risks; compared to a 100-day furnace turnover cycle, it results in annual cost savings of over 6 million yuan. Behind the record lies a great deal of unseen hard work. Before the Spring Festival, Furnace A in the gasification unit had been in operation continuously for 128 days. Based on production experience and the current operating conditions, the Coal-to-Hydrogen Production Department conducted a thorough analysis and concluded that Furnace A was capable of operating for extended periods of time. To ensure the stable operation of the Series A gasifiers during holidays, Coal-to-Hydrogen organized multiple discussions on the long-term operation of these gasifiers, formulated a \"Special Care Plan for Long-Term Operation of Gasifiers,\" and established targeted control measures. Party members took the lead in strictly implementing these measures to guarantee a continuous and stable supply of hydrogen. The Hydrogen Production Department of Jiujiang Petrochemical focuses on safety, process control, and equipment management to strive hard to break records. In terms of safety, the key personnel in coal-based hydrogen production teams focus on standardizing operations, optimizing and improving the procedures for starting up and shutting down operations as well as the daily work confirmation forms. During these processes, they strictly enforce the requirement for three-level verification on site, thereby improving the standardization of employees’ operation of process equipment. By formulating equipment maintenance manuals, the maintenance process for single-series gasifiers is standardized, thereby further regulating the control procedures for the equipment maintenance process as well as the quality inspection standards, to ensure the high-quality completion of gasifier switching and maintenance tasks. During on-site inspections, the \"Pang Gang Inspection Method\" and the Intelligent Inspection 3.0 system are promoted to vigorously advance standardized on-site inspection practices. In terms of the manufacturing process, changes in key process parameters are closely monitored, the relevant parameters are finely adjusted, and a set of standard operating procedures has been developed. To improve the management level of on-site equipment, coal-to-hydrogen plants emphasize predictive and preventive maintenance, equipment risk management, equipment change management, and equipment defect management in order to avoid unplanned shutdowns for maintenance. By closely monitoring the operating conditions of the equipment and carrying out regular maintenance tasks, more than 110 preventive maintenance actions have been implemented, which helps to prevent equipment failures and ensures the long-term safe and stable operation of the plants.
