New breakthroughs have been achieved in the coal pyrolysis technology for improving coal quality in rotary kilns! The rotary furnace coal pyrolysis upgrading technology is used to produce tar, semi-coke, and gas from coal. The dry rotary furnace and the pyrolysis rotary furnace are the core devices of this technology. Dry rotary kilns are used for coal drying, while pyrolysis rotary kilns are used for coal pyrolysis. The hot air furnace provides the heating medium, namely hot flue gas, for the drying rotary furnace and the pyrolysis rotary furnace. During the circulation of hot flue gas, the oxygen content in the flue gas system continues to increase. The dry rotary kiln features an internal heating structure, with hot flue gas in direct contact with coal. The use of hot flue gas with a high oxygen content in such an internal heating dry rotary kiln can lead to oxidation reactions within the kiln; when these reactions become intense, they can severely affect the operational safety of the rotary kiln. The main technical problem addressed by this invention is to overcome the drawback in existing technologies related to the coal pyrolysis process in rotary kilns, where the oxygen content in the hot flue gas keeps accumulating as a result of its continuous circulation, thereby affecting the operational safety of the rotary kiln. In recent years, through experimental research and exploration, Tianyuan Company has overcome the technical barriers associated with the 600,000 tons per year demonstration project for the comprehensive utilization of coal ash. A thorough analysis of the properties of the tar produced by coal ash pyrolysis, as well as an evaluation of its hydrogenation characteristics, have been carried out, providing data and technical support for the optimization and adjustment of tar processing techniques. At the same time, tests were conducted on different coal types. Tests have shown that, in addition to the lignite from the Shenfu area, Inner Mongolia lignite, Xinjiang lignite, Indonesian lignite, and others can also be used, thereby expanding the range of available raw materials. This provides Tianyuan Company with a reliable process package and engineering design data for the widespread application of pyrolysis technology in international cooperation. To date, Tianyuan Company has filed more than 140 patent applications in total and has been granted 102 patents, including 36 invention patents and 66 utility model patents. In 2022, 1 invention patent and 1 utility model patent were granted.
The technical bottlenecks of the 600,000 tons/year demonstration project for the comprehensive utilization of coal ash at different grades have been resolved. A comprehensive analysis of the properties of the tar produced through coal ash pyrolysis, as well as an evaluation of its hydrogenation performance, were carried out, providing data and technical support for the optimization and adjustment of the tar processing techniques.
