Methanol to hydrogen: 250 standard cubic meters per hour! Zhongyuan Petrochemical’s New Attempt at Diversified Hydrogen Production Author/Source: Date: 2022-03-27 Clicks: 12 On March 20, the methanol cracking hydrogen production unit in Unit 1 for olefins at Zhongyuan Petrochemical was successfully put into operation, producing qualified hydrogen at a designed rate of 250 standard cubic meters per hour. This device is of great significance for coordinating the production of various units within the company; it reduces the dependence between these units, allowing the company to regulate production more flexibly based on economic considerations and achieve a better state of operational efficiency. Due to the equipment not having been in operation for a long time, issues such as blockages in the heat exchangers, excessive vibration in the heat transfer oil pump, and failure of the electric heaters to function properly occurred during operation. The operations department planned ahead, developed strategies, and made timely adjustments to the system based on the trends in the parameter values. The relevant professional departments addressed the identified issues promptly and provided timely expert guidance, ensuring that the system was able to produce qualified hydrogen products at a rapid pace. Once the methanol-to-hydrogen plant is commissioned successfully, it can meet the hydrogen supply needs of polyethylene and polypropylene plants during high-load operations. When the operating conditions of the plant change, it is still possible to ensure the normal operation of the polyethylene and polypropylene plants, even when the ethylene plant is not in operation.
Process technology can indeed address some of the urgent needs of enterprises. I’m not sure about the costs; how much does hydrogen cost per cubic meter?
I’m a complete beginner and would like to ask the experts: in the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, what role does hydrogen play, and what is its specific consumption rate?
