Liquid-phase drying technology was utilized on an industrial scale for the first time in the FMTP process. Author/Source: Date: 2022-04-28. Clicks: 17. On April 25, it was reported by Southwest Chemical Engineering Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. that on the 20th of this month, the 35,000 tons per hour drying unit for the process liquid and the 38,000 cubic meters per hour drying unit for the process gas as part of the technology demonstration project carried out by China Huaneng Group Huating Coal Industry – a project aimed at producing 200,000 tons of polypropylene from 600,000 tons of methanol using the FMTP technology (fluidized-bed methanol-to-propylene conversion) – were successfully put into operation. The drying performance met the requirements for polypropylene production. This device is also the first industrial demonstration unit of the liquid-phase adsorption drying technology in the FMTP process. A responsible official from the Southwest Chemical Research Institute said that liquid-phase adsorption drying technology can remove the moisture introduced during the propylene production process, thereby solving the problem of trace amounts of water clogging the distillation towers and cold boxes in subsequent stages of the process. “In particular, the liquid-phase drying unit overcame key challenges such as the disruption to the bed layer caused by pressure changes affecting gas-liquid equilibrium, the emission and recovery of gaseous products during liquid-phase adsorption, the balance between efficient utilization of regenerated gas and energy conservation and environmental protection, and the throttling expansion of the propylene gas-liquid mixture that may occur due to high-pressure reverse flow. ” The device that achieved successful operation this time was provided by the Southwest Research Institute, which offered adsorption separation technology with independent intellectual property rights, a complete set of construction drawings, as well as the supply of key equipment and adsorption materials. It represents the first industrial-scale demonstration unit of liquid-phase adsorption drying technology in the FMTP process. The technology demonstration project carried out by Huaning Huating Coal Industry of China Huaneng Group, which successfully utilized this device to process 600,000 tons of methanol annually to produce 200,000 tons of polypropylene (FMTP), is China’s first FMTP technology demonstration project. It primarily relies on fluidized-bed methanol-to-propylene technology and gas-phase propylene polymerization technology. It adopts the FMTP patent technology with domestic intellectual property rights, jointly developed by Tsinghua University, Sinopec Group Corporation and other institutions, and is the first industrial methanol-to-propylene plant in China to use this FMTP technology. Upon completion, the project will be able to produce 160,000 tons of polypropylene, 19,000 tons of liquefied gas, 21,000 tons of propylene, and 14,000 tons of gasoline per year, among other products.
