Agreement on the development of ethylene-based MMA synthesis technology signed! Pu Jing Chemical and Anglo American Sign Framework Agreement for Cooperation Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry Information Network Date: 2022-10-19 Clicks: 16 On October 18, 2022, Shanghai Pu Jing Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Pu Jing Chemical”) and Anglo American Resources Trading (China) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Anglo American”) signed a framework agreement for cooperation on the project to produce methyl methacrylate (MMA) via the ethylene process at Pu Jing Chemical’s headquarters. Zhu Shen, chairman of Pu Jing Chemical, Chen Wei, general manager of precious metals market development for the Asia-Pacific region at Anglo American Resources, and other officials from both parties attended the signing ceremony. As an important organic chemical raw material, MMA is primarily used in the production of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), also known as acrylic glass. It finds applications in various fields such as construction, home decoration, automotive, aerospace, medical care, and photovoltaics ; Plastic additive ACR/MBS can also be synthesized for use in the PVC resin industry ; It can also be used in the production of emulsion coatings, textile printing and dyeing auxiliaries, among other fields, offering broad prospects for downstream applications. Ethylene carbonylation for MMA production is a technology that is encouraged under China’s 13th Five-Year Plan, and it offers significant advantages in terms of reducing carbon emissions and saving energy ; Compared with the traditional industrialized synthetic routes currently used in our country, it has a wide range of raw material sources, a short production process, and is environmentally friendly. However, due to the high technical barriers associated with this route, China does not yet have industrial production facilities for it. After more than a decade of experimental research, the R&D team at Pu Jing has made significant breakthroughs in the technology for synthesizing MMA via the two-step ethylene process, and has solved the problem of recovering platinum group metals from this catalyst system. As a global producer of platinum group metals, Anglo American is committed to continuously expanding the market applications for these metals, with a focus on promoting their use in advanced applications as well as the commercialization and market development of proprietary technologies. The signing of this framework agreement on the \"technology for synthesizing methyl methacrylate via the ethylene route\" marks the intention of both parties to explore cooperation in the development of cutting-edge and breakthrough technologies in the future, to promote the industrialization of MMA production using the ethylene route, and to stimulate demand for innovative applications of platinum-group metals.
