Currently, the project consumes 25,214 tons of crude DMC per year; 15,516 tons of high-quality DMC are produced annually, and an annual profit of 29.38 million yuan is expected to be achieved. During the synthesis of dimethyl oxalate, a by-product known as crude dimethyl carbonate is produced; due to its low purity, low selling price, it results in minimal profits. To this end, Binzhou Company began construction of a dedicated recovery and purification unit for dimethyl carbonate in November 2021; the piping work for this unit was completed in mid-October 2022, after which it came online. This unit uses a pressure-swapped distillation and heat coupling process to purify crude DMC, which contains about 45% of DMC, to 99.96% purity through low-temperature crystallization and distillation. Not only does it enable the production of products demanded by the market, but it also transforms organic waste into valuable resources, achieving zero emissions and maximizing profits, thereby significantly improving economic and environmental benefits. From the initial stages of project construction to a series of tasks such as piping installation, nitrogen purging, and methanol washing, all staff members of the DMC purification project team in the Ethylene Glycol Workshop worked day and night, putting in overtime to ensure that high-quality dimethyl carbonate could be produced on the very first attempt. The successful commissioning of the dimethyl carbonate purification project represents a major victory in Binzhou Company’s efforts to close out the fourth quarter.
