Sinochem New Network News: On May 8, the Hubei Province Solid-State Battery Industry Technology Innovation Consortium, initiated by Dongfeng Motor and formed in collaboration with 18 partners, was officially established. This consortium will focus on overcoming the key technical challenges related to solid-state batteries, working hard to establish an industry ecosystem for such batteries that is independent, controllable, safe, and efficient. This will help Hubei Province strengthen its new energy vehicle industry cluster and gain a competitive advantage in the development of next-generation power battery technologies. Compared to traditional liquid lithium batteries, solid-state batteries have a higher energy density, which enables a significant increase in the driving range of vehicles. They also offer clear advantages in terms of safety, as they can prevent thermal runaway at its source and reduce risks such as fires and explosions. Their performance in low-temperature conditions is particularly good; even in extremely cold environments of minus 30 degrees Celsius, they can still retain most of their charge. The industry generally believes that once solid-state batteries are produced on a large scale, they will reshape the landscape of the power battery industry and alter the competitive dynamics in the new energy vehicle sector. Leveraging years of technical expertise, Dongfeng Motor has established an independent full-process platform for solid-state batteries that covers research and development, prototype testing, and pilot production. It possesses comprehensive R&D capabilities and has developed a range of solid-state battery products across different performance levels. Its self-developed 350 watt-hour per kilogram high specific energy solid-state battery features high energy density, high safety, and good performance at low temperatures. The vehicle equipped with this solid-state battery has undergone over 70 winter calibration tests in Mohe, and is scheduled to enter mass production and hit the market in the second half of this year.
