CSSC Special Gases: “A Method and Apparatus for Preparing Octafluoropropane via Plasma Pyrolysis” On March 6, information from the Intellectual Property Office showed that CSSC (Handan) Pairei Special Gases Co., Ltd. had obtained a patent for “A Method and Apparatus for Preparing Octafluoropropane via Plasma Pyrolysis”; the application number is CN121609613A, with the application date being October 2025. The patent abstract indicates that this application falls within the field of fluorine-containing fine chemical synthesis technology, and specifically relates to a method and apparatus for preparing octafluoropropane via plasma pyrolysis. The method includes step S1: Nitrogen trifluoride and hexafluoropropene are fed into the reactor in a flow ratio of 0.2–3.2:1; upon application of electricity, nitrogen trifluoride undergoes decomposition and reacts with hexafluoropropene to produce the reaction products octafluoropropane and nitrogen ; Step S2: The reaction products, octafluoropropane and nitrogen, are condensed and separated, with the octafluoropropane being collected in liquid form. The device includes a plasma reactor, a cold trap, and an octafluoropropane storage tank arranged along the flow direction of the material; the cold trap is also connected to a vacuum pump, and the plasma reactor is equipped with an inlet for hexafluoropropylene. In this application, hexafluoropropene reacts directly with NF3; NF3 is decomposed into free fluoride ions in a plasma reactor, and these free fluoride ions react with hexafluoropropene to produce octafluoropropane. The reaction process is mild, and continuous production can be achieved.
