The ammonia synthesis tower and the thermal regeneration tower are the heart of an ammonia synthesis plant; they are reactors with extremely complex structures, designed to carry out catalytic reactions between nitrogen and hydrogen under high pressure and high temperature conditions, and they require very precise control over pressure and temperature. Given these stringent conditions, the company used 12mm-thick steel plates for the construction of the vessel, ensuring that it can withstand a working pressure of 14.2 MPa and a working temperature of 185°C during operation. The ammonia synthesis tower is 27.1 meters in height, with a diameter of 2.4 meters; its total volume is 112.3 m3, and its weight is 384 tons. It is by far the largest and tallest of its kind in China. Meanwhile, the heat regeneration tower of the supporting equipment is constructed by rolling cylindrical shells from 14mm thick steel plates and then welding them together, to ensure that it can maintain an operating pressure of 0.22 MPa and operating temperatures of 88.3°C at the top of the tower and 101.92°C at the bottom during normal operation.
