First domestic slurry pump completed engineering validation in TEDA. Recently, the first domestically produced slurry pump for polyethylene production, developed under the leadership of Tianjin Petrochemical, underwent more than 4,000 hours of operational testing at Tianjin Nangang’s 100,000-ton/year ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene plant. Its key performance indicators far exceeded those of imported equipment, marking a breakthrough in the domestic production of slurry pumps suitable for high-solid-content applications. This facility is the first in China to feature ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene production technology with independent intellectual property rights, utilizing Sinopec’s ethylene slurry polymerization technique. As the core driving equipment in this technology, the slurry pump operates under extremely harsh conditions. Previously, the slurry pumps used in similar domestic installations were entirely dependent on imports. Through collaborative efforts by Tianjin Petrochemical along with domestic design and manufacturing firms, industry-related problems such as the easy clogging and wear of slurry pumps with high solid content have been effectively resolved. Once this pump is manufactured domestically, it will significantly reduce procurement and maintenance costs, providing a solid foundation for reducing costs and improving efficiency in the polyethylene industry as well as ensuring supply chain security.
