It’s not intergranular corrosion; it’s likely erosion. If there’s a leak in the sealing surface, that’s understandable, but a leakage due to problems with the flange gasket would indicate a quality issue
Some gaskets must be replaced; once there is a leak, it’s no use trying to tighten them further. Tightening them is only necessary at the time of initial use. Once the sealing gasket is damaged, tightening it anymore won’t help – the problem cannot be fixed. This issue often occurs in ball valves. Generally, ball valves are modular in design. When conducting strength tests on the valve body, some manufacturers use press machines for these tests. This method of clamping the valve is not scientific; even valves that were originally leaking will stop leaking as a result of this pressure.
