Recently, we plan to mix the waste flue gas from our sulfur recovery process with the flue gas from the boilers before sending it to the flue gas desulfurization tower. We use the ammonia-based wet desulfurization method. What are the considerations regarding the design of the system for introducing this flue gas into the boiler flue – including mixing, analysis at the tower inlet, flue gas temperature (especially inside the PP-lined sections of the tower), and flue gas corrosion protection?
Ammonia-based wet flue gas desulfurization: What is your design capacity? What is the current level of SO2 content in your imported material? What is the SO2 content at the outlet of the desulfurization tower? And can the exhaust gas resulting from sulfur recovery be treated?
The design capacity for our ammonia-based desulfurization process is 290,000 Nm3/h; under normal conditions, the flue gas volume is around 90,000 Nm3/h, while the sulfur recovery exhaust gas volume is approximately 10,000 Nm3/h. There is some headroom; the SO2 level at the boiler flue gas inlet is 500–600 MG/m3 (the design value being 800). The level at the tower outlet is generally kept around 100. Currently, the main concerns are 1. high temperature of sulfur exhaust gas (tower inlet and inner walls lined with PP plates), ammonia leakage, and 2. flue corrosion. I wonder where is the best place to mix it?
