Dear Sea Friends! Is there SO3 present in the process gas of the sulfur recovery unit? Does anyone have any data or information on this topic? Please share and discuss it. Thank you! :handshake
There is no data, but sulfation is the effect of sulfur trioxide. After we started operations following the major overhaul in 2013, a large amount of sulfur trioxide was generated, and the catalysts had to be discarded.
If there is oxygen leakage in the process gas, or if the ammonia combustion burner does not function properly leading to the formation of nitrogen oxides, it is possible for sulfur dioxide to be oxidized into sulfur trioxide.
This view is very important; I have seen similar ideas in the literature before. The presence of NOx seems to promote the conversion of SO2 into SO3, presumably on SCR catalysts. However, I can no longer find the source of this information. Anyway, thank you in advance~~~:handshake
This post was last edited by qugd on 2015-12-8 at 16:52. If only low-temperature sulfide combustion occurs, sulfur dioxide cannot be produced under oxygen-poor conditions. However, in the presence of nitrides, especially when there is a slightly higher amount of oxygen during combustion, the nitrogen oxides formed have a catalytic oxidizing effect on sulfur dioxide, resulting in the formation of sulfur trioxide.
