For example, when requiring design lifespans of 20 years and 30 years, apart from the corrosion allowance for the equipment, what other aspects of the design will differ? Many standardized products, such as instruments, are usually difficult to keep in use for 20 years without replacement; so how should this design lifespan be understood? Is it usual to take into account the maintenance and replacement of many instruments, valves, and even equipment?
Many devices have a designed service life, which is merely an expected lifespan – a design parameter rather than the actual lifespan. The design lifespans of various products vary, so it is not possible to require the same standard for the entire system.
