I’m a bit confused about the changes in vent pressure

A vent pipe is used to release flammable gases. There is a flame holder that remains lit at the torch, and a manual valve is located at the outlet. There is a pressure gauge in front of this valve; the specified pressure range is not above 30 KPA and not below 5 KPA. When a large amount of gas is vented, the pressure drops below 5 KPA, and the valve closes automatically to prevent the pressure from rising further. However, when only a small amount of gas is vented, the pressure rises above 30 KPA, and keeping the valve open does not help to lower the pressure. It’s a bit confusing – could someone please explain what’s going on? ! !

There is a water seal in front of the flare; pressure must exceed a certain level for it to reach the flare tip
The gas released from the system must not come into contact with water. We have a solenoid valve equipped with a pressure setting; it releases gas when that pressure is reached, and then it shuts off. However, this system stopped working properly as something got stuck in it, causing continuous release of gas, so we had to use a manual valve for adjustment
