Is it better to have more or less in valve design and installation? For example, some factories install a root valve on the side of the control valve that is closest to the equipment, while others do not. In some factories, there is first a manual root valve at the outlet at the bottom of the reactor, followed by a pneumatic on/off valve; whereas in other factories, there is simply an on/off valve, which is installed horizontally and quite close to the bottom of the reactor
Start with the manual valve and then the pneumatic valve; this was done because there was sufficient budget during the plant construction. The purpose of the manual valve is to facilitate the maintenance of the pneumatic valve. Installing only manual valves can save on the investment costs for building the plant.
It’s already difficult to do one’s own job well; things related to design are probably even harder. It seems there’s no pressure these days, right?:)
From a design perspective, manual valves are primarily designed for isolation and maintenance purposes, control valves are intended to enable automatic regulation of parameters such as flow rate, temperature, and pressure, while quick-close valves are designed for safety purposes to ensure shutdown in emergency situations
From a design perspective, if the reactor is connected to a control valve, a root valve is installed on the side of the control valve that is under liquid or gas pressure in order to facilitate maintenance of the control valve. If there is a drain valve in the bypass at the discharge point, and it is possible to drain all the liquid completely, then a root valve may not be necessary
Equipping manual valves on both sides of the control valve is a standard configuration. This design requires installation; it’s essential. Otherwise, it will be hard to regret it later.
