Disadvantages of horizontal placement: Uneven stress on the spring: When placed horizontally, the spring of the safety valve is subjected to the gravitational force of the valve itself as well as that of the valve stem and valve plate, resulting in horizontal forces that can cause the spring to deform or get damaged, thereby affecting its proper functioning. Spool offset: Placing it horizontally can also cause the spool to shift, preventing it from aligning accurately with the valve seat, which in turn affects the sealing performance and the ability to open the valve promptly. Loss of functionality: Leaving it in a horizontal position for an extended period of time may cause the internal components of the safety valve to loosen or get damaged, thereby resulting in a loss of its functionality and its inability to provide the necessary protection.
When installing the gate valve behind the safety valve, the valve stem should be installed horizontally or downward; this is mainly to prevent the valve disc from sliding down due to corrosion of its pins, which could lead to the failure of the pressure relief system.
