In life, one can rely on heaven, earth, and parents, but it’s better to rely on oneself. Relying on deception or trickery is not as good as having integrity. Living on one’s own allows for lasting peace of mind, while acting with integrity ensures a clear conscience! When helping others, there’s no need to ask for anything in return; when being helped, one should be grateful. Good or bad character is visible to everyone; those who know how to be grateful have a clear conscience. Learn to be content and keep a low profile. In this world, there are always people who are worse off than you, as well as those who are better off. When you complain that the food isn’t good enough, there are still people who don’t have enough to eat; and when you show off your wealth, there are still those with even more assets. Be open-minded and don’t hold grudges; view money lightly and avoid greed. Arguing over trivial matters spoils one’s mood and damages relationships; calculating over money ruins one’s character and leaves a bad reputation. When sitting in quiet reflection, think of one’s own faults; when chatting, do not talk about others. Only by constantly reflecting on one’s own shortcomings can one recognize one’s mistakes. Do not waste time talking about others; if you have something to say, say it face to face, and refrain from speaking behind their backs. One must know how to cherish things, but also be willing to let go. There should be sincerity in caring for others, as well as the determination to let go when necessary.
