China’s Dongfang Electric’s self-developed Class F heavy-duty gas turbines have been exported overseas for the first time, to Kazakhstan. According to a report from IT Home on November 23, Dongfang Electric announced that the construction ceremony for a 50-megawatt combined cycle power generation project in Jambul Province, Kazakhstan, was held recently. Dongfang Steam Turbine, a subsidiary of Dongfang Electric Group, provided 3 50-megawatt heavy-duty gas turbines (coded G50) that were developed independently as the core equipment for this project. The bottleneck in core technologies and the lack of manufacturing capabilities represent critical challenges that need to be addressed urgently on China’s path to energy security and industrial upgrading. Today, this landscape has been completely transformed – the G50 heavy-duty gas turbines have enabled China to make a historic breakthrough in this field, going from scratch to achieving practical application; the first batch of these turbines has accumulated over 10,000 hours of operation, 10 units have been ordered, and the burner technology used is at the international leading level. Based on the G50 technology, Dongfang Steam Turbine has embarked on a strategy to develop a range of products: it is working on creating 200-megawatt-class G200 gas turbines at the higher end, while also developing 15-megawatt-class G15 gas turbines at the lower end. The G15 model can operate using 100% hydrogen/ammonia as fuel ； In the medium-power range, the G80 gas turbine with an output of 80 megawatts is used; as China’s first high-power split-axis turbine model, it boasts an efficiency of over 38% and NOx emissions below 15 ppm. Today, Dongfang Steam Turbine has developed a complete product portfolio covering 15–200 megawatts.
