On October 9, 2023, construction work on the hydrogen-ammonia project intended to support the nylon chemical industry at Henan Shenma Hydrogen Chemistry Co., Ltd. was in full swing; more than 10 technicians were conducting cold tests on the air separation unit and tightening bolts. In the central control room, information such as \"abnormal faults, handling status, and construction progress\" during the debugging phase is displayed in tabular form in the middle of the screen. Those marked in green indicate that they have been processed and meet the normal criteria. White indicates that the fault has not been resolved and is still in the processing stage. At present, all tasks for the project, including the joint commissioning of large units, airtightness testing, water testing, boiler heating, and oven drying, have been completed, and the project has entered the commissioning phase as a whole. Trial production is expected to begin by the end of the year. The Henan Shenma hydrogen and ammonia project commenced construction in November 2021, covering an area of 540 mu. In May 2023, the equipment installation and commissioning phase began. This project is a large-scale chemical project supported by Pingdingshan City and China Pingmei Shennma Holding Group to develop the \"China Nylon City\", establish a supply chain for nylon at the upstream stage, and address the issue of raw material shortages. The hydrogen and ammonia project supporting the nylon chemical industry uses multi-nozzle water-coal slurry gasification to produce raw gas, which is then purified into clean gas after undergoing shift reaction, heat recovery, desulfurization, and decarburization. Part of the purified gas is compressed into syngas after being refined in liquid nitrogen, and then sent to the ammonia synthesis plant to produce 400,000 tons of liquid ammonia. Another portion of the purified gas passes through a PSA hydrogen extraction unit to produce 50,000 m3/h of pure hydrogen. Project Overview: Henan Shenma Nylon Chemical Co., Ltd. is carrying out a technical upgrade and relocation of its existing hydrogen production facilities in the Pingdingshan Nylon New Materials Industry Cluster in Ye County, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province. Advanced water-coal slurry gasification technology is being used in place of fixed-bed gasification technology to build a facility capable of producing 400,000 tons per year of liquid ammonia and 50,000 Nm3/h of hydrogen, with sulfuric acid generated as a by-product. The construction of this facility will meet the raw material needs of companies in the nylon chemical and nylon technology sectors, enabling self-sufficiency in terms of raw materials. Production units: coal preparation, gasification, shift and heat recovery, low-temperature methanol washing, liquid nitrogen washing, ammonia synthesis, sulfur recovery, PSA hydrogen production, air separation units, and product storage areas, etc ; Public utilities and auxiliary facilities include the complex building, central laboratory, central control room, substation, circulating water station, desalination station, sewage treatment plant, deaeration station, chemical storage area, etc. Process technology: Using Shenmu coal blended with locally produced high-sulfur coal from Pingdingshan as raw material, crude gas is produced through reaction in a water-coal slurry gasifier. The crude gas is then processed through shift and heat recovery units, as well as desulfurization and decarburization units, to yield purified gas. Part of this purified gas is further refined by liquid nitrogen washing, compressed into syngas, and sent to an ammonia synthesis unit to produce liquid ammonia as the final product. Another portion of the purified gas is used to produce pure hydrogen under the adsorption action of the PSA hydrogen extraction unit, while the acidic gas generated by the purification unit is sent to a sulfur recovery unit to produce concentrated sulfuric acid as a by-product. Main equipment: coal mills, gasifiers, water scrubbers, shift converters, heat exchangers, coolers, compressors, steam turbines, adsorbers, pumps, tanks, liquid nitrogen cooling boxes, ice makers, transformers, and flares, etc. This project is a large-scale chemical facility supported by Pingdingshan City and China Pingmei Shennma Holding Group for the development of the \"China Nylon City,\" to establish a complete nylon industry chain, and to address the shortages of raw materials such as hydrogen and liquid ammonia. It is designed to have an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 400 million standard cubic meters of hydrogen, with a total investment of around 3.3 billion yuan planned. Once completed, it can serve as an industrial gas supply center, liquid ammonia storage and transportation center, wastewater treatment center, and steam coupling center for China’s Nylon City, thereby further enhancing the market competitiveness of the entire nylon industry chain.
