Due to the effect of gravity in capillaries, 1 is the only suitable option; it is also the installation method recommended in many manuals!

When focusing solely on pressure transmission and ignoring the inherent defects in the sensor’s technical performance, Figure 1 is applicable in general. In Figures 2 and 3, the pressure difference across the liquid column can be measured effectively only when the gas phase pressure in the storage tank remains above a certain value. Taking Figure 3 as an example, when the vapor pressure = 0 kPaG, whether the liquid column in the storage tank increases or decreases, the differential pressure detected at the sensor diaphragm remains unchanged and stays at 0 kPa. Why? Because the gravitational pressure of the liquid column is directed vertically toward the center of the Earth, when (P_air + P_liquid) < P_oil, the pressure does not reach the sensor diaphragm. .
