On June 30, a launch event for the new coal-based synthetic III+ base oil products was held in Shanghai. Liu Junyi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Lu’an Group, and Ma Junxiang, Deputy General Manager, attended the meeting. At the press conference, Liu Junyi explained that Lu’an is a modern enterprise ranked among the world’s top 500 companies, with a 60-year history and profound cultural heritage. Especially in recent years, Lu’an has relied on its strong coal industry as a foundation to make every effort to shift towards advantages, transform its driving forces, and upgrade its industries, aiming to build a flagship for high-quality transformation and development under the brand name \"Taihang Lubricants\". Adhering to a technology-driven approach, it has pursued a new path for high-end modern coal chemical industry characterized by differentiation, sophistication, scale, and internationalization. It has successively built and put into operation the world’s third and China’s first industrial facility for producing FTO specialty waxes, the world’s first industrial facility for producing coal-based synthetic PAO, as well as the world’s first facility for producing coal-based synthetic III+ base oils. It has now become the world’s largest producer of specialty waxes and Asia’s largest producer of fully synthetic lubricant base oils. Lu’an’s “Taihang” lubricants have gained widespread attention across China and have also gone global. At the same time, Lu’an adheres to innovation-driven development, focuses on low carbon and high efficiency, and creates new markets through new technologies to drive the company’s transformation. Ma Junxiang explained that this year, Lu’an Group’s first 350,000 tons per year coal-based synthetic III+ base oil production facility in China successfully produced ultra-clean coal-based synthetic III+ base oil. This marks Lu’an Group’s full possession of the capabilities and technical expertise needed to produce such base oil, and it represents a new milestone in the advanced and differentiated development of modern coal chemical industry in China. The launch of the new coal-based Synthetic III+ base oil products not only meets the demand of Chinese users for higher-quality base oils, but also injects new vitality into China’s high-end base oil market. It is hoped that through this launch event for the new coal-based synthetic III+ base oils, broader cooperation can be established with more international companies, lubricant manufacturers, well-known businesses, and companies specializing in advanced materials. Together, we can explore the potential of these coal-based synthetic III+ base oils, conduct research on their applications, work together towards common goals, and achieve mutual success, thereby pushing the lubricant industry forward to a new stage of high-quality development. At the meeting, representatives from Taihang Lubricant Company, Chevron Corporation, Chevron Oronite, Yafudun Company, and the Shanghai Institute of Advanced Study affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with experts and consultants in the lubricant industry, delivered speeches on topics such as “The technology and applications of Lu’an coal-based synthetic III+ base oils,” “The use of synthetic base oils in future engine oils,” “The performance of coal-derived synthetic base oils in ATF products,” “The impact of Lu’an CTL synthetic base oils on China’s base oil market,” and “Research on the performance and applications of high-end coal-based lubricants.” It is reported that Lu’an Group’s coal-based synthetic III+ base oil is produced using FTO synthesis intermediate products as raw materials, through internationally advanced manufacturing processes. This III+ lubricant base oil has properties similar to those of PAO; its viscosity index can reach up to 140, while its pour point can drop as low as -35°C. It also boasts good oxidation and light stability, making it highly suitable for the requirements of National VI engines and high-end lubricants in the context of Industry 4.0. As such, it holds great market potential. The successful production of Lu’an coal-based Synthesis III+ base oil, whose performance parameters exceed those of American API Class III lubricant base oils, has completely reversed the situation in which China relied on imports for high-end synthetic base oils for a long time. It has filled a gap in the domestic market, alleviated the growing demand for high-end lubricants in China’s lubricant market as well as the dependence on foreign high-end lubricants. By replacing imported petroleum-based lubricant base oils, it has opened up a sustainable path for the independent production of high-end lubricants in China. The holding of this press conference will further promote the high-end development of the base oil industry, raise the oil standards used by domestic lubricant manufacturers, reshape the industry structure, and drive the growth of China’s clean energy sector.
