The EPC general contract for the project aimed at producing 400,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year from waste gas, carried out by Hami Guanghui Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., was signed on June 15. This project is the first of its kind in China to utilize waste gas for the production of ethylene glycol. The contract was signed in Urumqi. Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry; Date: 2019-06-18; Views: 69 The signing parties are Hami Guanghui Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guanghui Energy, and China Fifth Ring Engineering Co., Ltd., which is part of Sinochem. The Guanghui ethylene glycol project is located in the Naomaohu Industrial Park, Yiwu County, Hami City, Xinjiang, with a total investment of 3.56 billion yuan. The project adopts the third-generation technology for \"WHB synthesis gas-based polyester-grade ethylene glycol\", jointly developed by China Five Rings, Huashuo Technology Co., Ltd., and Hebi BMW (Group) Co., Ltd. Through a series of processes including conversion, shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing, and PSA adsorption separation, the valuable synthesis gas components H2 and CO present in raw gas are extracted, and polyester-grade ethylene glycol is produced using carbonylation, hydrogenation, and purification technologies. For a long time, waste gas has mainly been used for combustion to generate electricity or simply burned off, and the effective utilization of this resource has always been a challenge for the industry. This project produces 400,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol. During the conversion process, the organic sulfur in waste gas is converted into H2S, which is easy to recover, and sulfur is produced through wet sulfur recovery units. This approach enables maximum utilization of the waste gas resources, allowing them to be transformed into useful syngas. As a result, it is possible to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 600,000 tons per year directly, and by about 1.7 million tons per year indirectly. Compared with the currently widely used projects for producing ethylene glycol from coal-based syngas, using waste gas to produce ethylene glycol can save more than 30% in project construction costs, significantly reduce the production costs of ethylene glycol, and enhance the overall profitability of the project.
How much syngas is required to produce 400,000 tons of ethylene glycol? And how much raw gas is needed to refine it into syngas? What scale of carbon black or coking production capacity is required to produce by-product waste gas? How much washed coal is required to produce blue carbon or coke? 4 tons of raw coal are needed to produce 1 ton of washed coal!
