Sinochem 13th Construction won the bid for Hubei Sanning Co., Ltd.’s project to produce 600,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol. On July 8, the second branch of Sinochem 13th Construction won the bid for this project, with a provisional bid value of 200 million yuan, aimed at adjusting the raw material structure for ammonia production and simultaneously producing 600,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol. The construction scope of the winning bid includes the low-temperature methanol washing process in Section 1, as well as the DMO synthesis and distillation processes as well as CO recycle gas compression (42/43/44) in the ethylene glycol plant in Section 6; the owner has now issued the notice of award. The win of this project fills the gap in the company’s track record regarding main units for ethylene glycol projects; it is also, since July, another project with a contract value of over 100 million yuan for the Second Branch, following the caprolactam expansion project at Xuyang Chemical. Hubei Sanning Chemical’s project for adjusting the raw material structure used in ammonia synthesis and for producing 600,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol is located in the Yaojiagang Chemical Park in Zhijiang City. The total estimated investment for this project is 10 billion yuan. Construction began on February 9, 2018, with completion and operation expected by December 2019. The project utilizes Yankuang’s pressurized gasification of water-coal slurry, with the core process being the technology for producing ethylene glycol from high-purity chemical synthesis gas. Donghua Institute is responsible for the overall construction, and a contract for the air separation unit was also signed with Air Liquide. The project is constructed in two phases: Phase 1 involves the construction of facilities for producing 520,000 tons per year of synthetic ammonia and 400,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol, while Phase 2 involves the construction of facilities for producing 200,000 tons per year of slow-release urea.
