The 120,000-ton/year coal tar-based carbon materials production project at Shanxi Coal Shenmu Tianyuan has entered the equipment installation phase. Author/Source: Refining & Chemical Industry News. Date: 2019-11-01. Clicks: 11. On October 30th, the site of the 120,000-ton/year medium- and low-temperature coal tar-based carbon materials research and development project at Shenmu Tianyuan was bustling with activity. The project construction is nearing completion; the work on process piping and electrical instrumentation is progressing rapidly, while the commissioning of dynamic equipment and the pressure testing of static equipment are being carried out in an orderly manner. It is understood that in order to significantly increase the added value of its products and pursue a path in high-end, sophisticated chemical manufacturing, Shenmu Tianyuan began research and development on technologies for producing new carbon materials from medium- and low-temperature coal tar in 2017, and achieved positive results. In June 2018, the preliminary work and design for the research and development project on the production of carbon materials from 120,000 tons per year of medium- and low-temperature coal tar were officially launched, with construction beginning on May 20, 2019. There is a tight deadline, heavy workload, limited space, which increases the difficulty of carrying out the construction work. How to advance project construction safely and efficiently and complete it on schedule remains a challenge for those responsible for and involved in the project. At present, the installation of the main equipment for this project has been fully completed, and some of the equipment has already started single-unit testing. All the personnel involved in the project are working together to advance its construction safely and efficiently. Trial production is expected to begin in late November, at which point Shenmu Tianyuan will be able to move forward along a path of low costs and high productivity, thereby laying the foundation for the company’s transformation and upgrading.
